MRF MEPs voted for an ambitious EU budget and immediate funding for the recovery strategy

The proposal for a renewed European Parliament position on the next long-term EU budget for 2021-2027 was made by the centrist Renew Europe group, before the Commission presented an adapted proposal for the Multiannual Financial Framework in view of the need for quick and adequate actions for economic recovery and ensuring the stability of the European budget.
Already at the beginning of the crisis, the European Parliament approved a series of measures to deal with the consequences of the pandemic, adopting in April a resolution calling for a more ambitious MFF. With its consistent actions, according to MEPs from DPS - Ilhan Kyuchyuk, Iskra Mihailova and Atige Aliyeva-Veli, the EP upholds its commitment to European citizens to respond to the need for urgent measures to ensure economic stability and continuity of the EU's main policies - such as cohesion and agricultural policy, but also insists on reaching a long-term compromise for budgetary reform and ambitious EU policies after 2020.
The text of the voted resolution emphasizes that it is essential that the recovery fund be linked to the current and future MFF, being consistent with its structure and objectives, and calls for funding under it to start as soon as possible. However, MEPs point out that financing the recovery fund and future ambitious programs to meet the current challenges requires an increased EU budget and insist that no additional burden be placed on national budgets by maintaining the current nominal levels of country contributions -members in exchange for the introduction of new own resources. Possible sources for this, according to the text, include taxation of digital services, financial transactions, revenues from emissions trading and plastic pollution.
According to the DPS representatives who supported the resolution, the opportunity to use the transformative power of the current crisis should not be missed, and the related measures should be used in full to overcome social and economic inequalities between the regions of the Union. In this regard, they emphasized that, together with their colleagues in the "Renew Europe" group, they consider it a priority for the new budget to invest in sustainable development measures, including measures for "green" recovery of the economy, achieving strategic autonomy and technological sovereignty, progress in digital technologies and a new European health agenda to make the EU more future-proof. In addition, Bulgarian MEPs insisted that European funds should be directed to beneficiaries who respect the core values of the EU, democracy and the rule of law to achieve a stronger Europe of shared solidarity and responsibilities.
