The MRF delegation in the European Parliament supported the demands for a more ambitious EU budget and its binding to the rule of law

MEPs from the Movement for Rights and Freedoms - Ilhan Kyuchuk, Iskra Mihailova and Atige Aliyeva - Veli voted in support of a resolution reflecting the position of the EP in relation to the agreement reached last week within the framework of the European Council on the multiannual financial framework and EU recovery fund.


The resolution voted by the EP welcomes the agreement reached within the Council on the recovery fund as a tool to boost the European economy, while calling for more ambition in terms of providing new own resources to the EU budget and more courage in the funding of horizontal EU programs of common interest, in the field of health, research, education, digital transformation and innovation.


The Bulgarian MEPs pointed out that, as part of the "Renew Europe" Group, they consistently insist on tools for immediate recovery and achieving sustainability for the economies and employment of Europeans, but also for a bold approach to the ecological and digital transition, in full compliance with the principles of the rule of law country from all EU member states.


Movement for Rights and Freedoms MEPs welcomed the Council's view that 30% of total spending under the EU's long-term budget and the Next Generation EU recovery instrument should be directed to climate-related projects and green recovery measures, stating, that the new multi-annual framework should ensure sustainability but also a transformation towards future-oriented policies. In addition, they emphasized that the new European budget and the unprecedented participation of the EU in the capital markets reinforce the role of the Union as an international and economic factor and must be tied to conditions for the spending of these funds in compliance with high democratic standards and the rule of law in the countries - members.


Last but not least, Ilhan Kyuchuk, Iskra Mihailova and Atidje Aliyeva-Veli emphasized the need for adequate actions to ensure the stability and continuity of the main policies of the EU, but also the importance of the request of the European Parliament for a bold budget reform and the role of the institution in the demand of compromise on the future of financial instruments after 2020.
