The European Parliament voted on a resolution on the need for coordinated action to combat the COVID-19 pandemic and its consequences, as well as accompanying legislative amendments in the spirit of the institution's position. The resolution includes a wide range of proposals and key actions at EU level to respond to the current crisis and provide an improved Union preparedness for the future.

The European Union must strengthen its capacity to react in such situations and its coordinated approach to protect the health and life of European citizens. Secondly, we must take care of strengthening the economy and the jobs affected by the pandemic. We must not forget that we are a Union of Values and allow the crisis to be used to push anti-democratic measures. On the contrary - we must use this opportunity to reform the EU and emerge stronger, better prepared and more united from this challenge. Last but not least - if we want to be a globally significant force, we must also be in solidarity with the countries neighboring the EU. These are precisely the main lines that the DPS delegation supported in the process of drafting the text of the resolution and in support of which we voted today," commented Ilhan Kyuchuk, head of the DPS delegation in the "Renew Europe" group.

The voted text emphasizes that cooperation is the only way to successfully overcome the crisis, calling on the European Commission and the member states to take action together, in the name of a stronger EU after it ends. With the resolution, the MEPs insist on concrete measures to strengthen the European solidarity and action in the health sector. In response to the socio-economic consequences of the crisis, the EP calls for an ambitious multiannual financial framework and a large-scale recovery and investment package. The text also emphasizes the need to protect European values and the rule of law, particularly in Hungary and Poland, and to eliminate attempts at political and economic influence by forces external to the Union, calling for deep reflection on how to make the EU more effective and democratic by engaging in a dialogue with citizens for deep reform in the EU within the framework of the planned Conference on the Future of Europe.

The position of "Renew Europe", which was also reflected in the general appeal of the European Parliament that we voted on today, is for a reformed, stronger and adequate Europe to the supranational challenges. The decisions we make today will have an impact on what the EU will look like after the coronavirus. Now is the time to learn the lessons of the pandemic and take action in the spirit of true solidarity, so that this crisis will provide an opportunity - for a - stronger and more united EU after it" - emphasized Iskra Mihailova, vice-president of "Renew Europe".

For us, the representatives of the MRF in the "Renew Europe" group, there is no doubt that all possible tools should be used to prepare a massive package to restore the economy, to stabilize small and medium-sized businesses and preserve jobs, especially in severe - the affected sectors such as agriculture and tourism", added Atidje Aliyeva-Veli, member of the Commission for Agriculture and Rural Development.
